Stress!

a word, a response, a stimulus, a mental strain, an emotional tension...no matter what the clinical definition is, each one of us have and will experience stress.

Even though for more than 50 years the effects of stress on our mental, emotional and physical health have been studied, it is still necessary to raise awareness of its devastating impact on our professional and social life. What was before an automatic response developed to protect our ancient ancestors from predators and threats, might now be one of the major contributors to mental illness.

Understanding what stress is and how it affects us, as well as learning to manage it, is crucial in our “deadline” society. From eustress to distress, from improved productivity to memory loss, from the general adaptation syndrome to the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and more will be approached in this lecture.

We will explore what happens in the body and brain when we experience stress and then we will try different practical tools for stress management, such as reathing techniques and meditation.
